Using this website

The pages here describe a service and set out general information about ground and growth in and around Exeter. They are not advice about your specific property. Nothing on the site forms a contract until a booking is agreed in writing.

Work is charged by the hour at the published rate. Any number of hours discussed before the work starts is an estimate of time, not a fixed price for the job.

What a clearance covers

Cutting standing growth down to ground level with a brush cutter, strimming out around obstacles and boundaries, and raking, stacking or removing the cut material as agreed before the visit.

It does not include tree work at height, stump removal, chainsaw work, digging, herbicide treatment, or the removal of notifiable weeds requiring licensed disposal. Where something on site falls outside the work, it is pointed out rather than attempted.

Access, hazards and safety

You are asked before the visit to say what is hidden in the growth. A brush cutter throws whatever it meets at speed, and glass, wire, buried edging, garden lights, pond liners and inspection covers are all common. Anything flagged is worked around; anything unknown is found the careful way.

Pets and livestock must be off the ground being cut, and children kept clear while a machine is running. If conditions on the day make a safe or worthwhile job impossible, the visit is rescheduled at no cost. Rescheduling for heavy rain is normal and is not treated as a cancellation.

Booking, payment and cancellation

Work is charged at the published hourly rate including VAT, with a two hour minimum. A deposit of 50% of the estimated time books the date and the balance is due on completion, calculated on the time actually worked. Where a job is going to overrun the estimate you are told on site and you decide whether to continue.

Waste removal is charged in addition, at the tipping cost for the load and nothing more. Cancelling with reasonable notice costs nothing. A wasted visit, where access is not available or the site is not as described, may be charged at the minimum.

Waste and what leaves the site

Cut material removed from your property is carried under Hembury Contracting's waste carrier registration CBDU641882 and taken to a licensed site. Material left on site by agreement remains yours.

Insurance and liability

Public liability insurance in place. A copy of the certificate is available on request. Hembury Contracting is also a registered waste carrier, registration CBDU641882.

Liability is limited to the fee paid for the work, except where the law does not allow that limit.
