Who turns up
A Hembury Contracting service line, run from Exeter

Hembury Contracting
Hembury Contracting is Sam Hembury's contracting and handyman business, based in Exeter and working across the surrounding towns and villages. Sam is a sole trader, which means the person quoting the work, the person doing it and the person you ring afterwards are the same person.
The clearance work grew out of the rest of it. Gardens that had got away from people came up again and again on jobs that started as something else, and it became clear that the thing missing was not a gardener but somebody with the right machines who would give a price without a fortnight of back and forth first.
So this side of it runs on a published hourly rate. Everything else about it is ordinary contracting practice: insured, VAT registered, invoiced properly, and registered to carry the waste away.
On the record
Registration, kit and cover
Registered waste carrier
Hembury Contracting holds waste carrier registration CBDU641882, so the cut material can leave your property legally rather than being someone else's problem. Tipping is charged on at cost.
Public liability insurance
Cover is in place for the work. Brush cutters throw stones, and anyone taking one near your glass, your car or your neighbour's fence should be able to say what happens if one goes the wrong way.
Petrol brush cutters, not a domestic strimmer
Harness mounted machines with a metal blade for woody bramble and bracken and a nylon head for grass and edges. A hired garden strimmer will bog down in the first hour of anything that has stood for a season.
One rate, published
£60 an hour including VAT, two hour minimum. There is no free site visit to sit through, no per job quote to wait for and nothing to negotiate. What it costs depends on how long it takes.
Professional petrol brush cutters
Harness mounted machines that take a metal brush blade for woody growth and a nylon head for softer grass and edges.
Rakes, forks and a tipping trailer
Clearing the cut material is part of the job, not an extra visit. The trailer goes with the machines.
How we work
How this is run
One rate, written down
£60 an hour including VAT with a two hour minimum, half a day at £240 and a full day at £480. It is on the pricing page rather than behind an enquiry form, because the first thing anybody wants to know is whether this is affordable at all.
No free site visit as standard
Photographs and a postcode are enough to estimate the hours on almost every job. A site visit means a trip charged into somebody's price somewhere, and on a job with a published rate there is nothing for it to add.
The cut material is part of the job
Raking off and loading out is planned into the time rather than treated as an extra. On heavy clearance it can be a third of the hours, which is why the estimate says what it says.
Waste leaves legally
Hembury Contracting is a registered waste carrier, registration CBDU641882. Anything taken off your property goes to a licensed site and the tipping charge is passed on at cost with nothing added.
Straight answers about what comes back
Bramble, bracken and nettle regrow from the crown, and a single cut does not change that. You get told what next spring looks like rather than sold a result that a brush cutter cannot deliver.
Work that is not for a brush cutter
Tree work at height, notifiable weeds that need licensed disposal, and anything needing a chainsaw rather than a blade are all said out loud rather than taken on. Being told no on the phone costs you nothing.
